Child Tax Credit
The Child Tax Credit is a payment which is made to families with children. It is a means-tested benefit, so the amount that you could expect to receive will depend on your familys individual circumstances.
You can claim the Child Tax Credit whether you are in full-time employment or not, and any savings that you have will not affect your claim. In order to claim, your income must not exceed the income threshold figure (currently £50,000 a year). However, if your level of income does exceed this figure, then your payment may be reduced accordingly.
Do I qualify?
You will qualify for the Child Tax Credit if:
- You are aged 16 or over; and
- You are responsible for a child or children under the age of 16; or
- You are responsible for a child or children under the age of 19, and they are in full-time, non-advanced education; and
- Your gross annual household income is less than £50,000 a year.
